Today, a planned mini-demonstration was held at the intersection of Lorraine and Rangeland. Lesley Dwyer, a reporter from the Observer also conducted an interview at the site. Dan Creek, one of the leaders of the No Home Depot Movement, and Lin Harvard, a resident living near the proposed development site, organized the demonstration to draw attention to their cause.
Dan and Lin came prepared, donning custom t-shirts and holding signs that clearly voiced their opposition to the construction of a Home Depot in their residential community. Their goal was to create a strong visual impact for the media and to showcase the growing opposition to the development.
The demonstration didn’t go unnoticed by the community—passing drivers honked in support, and a few even stopped to learn more about the movement. This planned demonstration highlights the determination of local residents to protect Lakewood Ranch from the potential negative impacts of overdevelopment.
The interview with the Observer went well, and we expect the story to be published on or before September 13th. This demonstration is just the beginning; plans for a larger, more organized event are underway. Stay tuned for details, and join us in making our voices heard.
